The Time Has Come

As an antidote to the polarization, division and rampant demonization of “the other” dominating our public discourse, here are some words of wisdom on a way forward from Bishop Steven Charleston.

Let me be transparent:
I am intentionally reaching out to people from all walks of life,
from all traditions, from all nations
to gather as many of us as I can
for the great work that is to come.
Call me an old dreamer or an unlikely prophet,
but I see what is over the horizon.
And so do many of you.
You know as well as I do that to carry life safely to the far shore,
we need all the help we can get.
And we need to be doing that work of invitation sooner, not later.
So I will continue to send out the signal.
Come here.
Come now.
You are welcome and you are needed.
Help us grow a global family of many faiths
with a shared commitment to peace and fairness.
